BC: Second staffer fired over data breach

Submitted by Steve Meltzer on December 2, 2009 – 12:56 pmComments

The B.C. government has fired a second employee, and announced another investigation, in connection with a security breach in which the files of 1,400 income-assistance clients turned up in a government worker’s home.

Citizens’ Services Minister Ben Stewart confirmed yesterday that the second employee was “involved with” the Public Service Agency within his ministry.

The person is believed to be the spouse of the employee who was caught with the documents in his home earlier this year and who had already been fired for the breach.
